From Nakameguro to Everywhere: Cornelius

"When you go to a Cornelius show you can't compare it to the other shows you've seen, no one's doing what these guys are - I'm still feeling romantic about the last time I saw them." Dan Zilber, Sydney's FBI Radio.

I (stupidly) missed the opportunity to catch Cornelius last time they played here in 2003. I won't be making the same mistake again. Don't you either.

Real name 'Keigo Oyamada', Cornelius (a made up persona that pays homage to Keigo's favourite character from 'Planet of the Apes') is jetting here this summer to play tracks from his forthcoming 'Sensuous' LP. Described by many as one of the truly great live performance artists of our time, songs are often played in sync with projected visuals, a laser light show and complimented by and talented and musically tight band.

His work is impossible to pigeon hole. Part techno, part ambient, part rock, part something else entirely. A little bit of this and a little bit of that. His previous two albums Fantasma and Point have been released in over 20 countries world wide, demonstrating just how wide and far reaching his appeal is.

To this day, Point remains one of my most favourite albums ever. The final track
'Nowhere' is a beautifully crafted tune that encapsulates a melancholic feeling of sound and space that dissipitates into nothingness. It's such an emotive and yet ultimately relaxing song, that it's often not for minutes & minutes after the song's completion (and that too of the album) that I realise I've happily been listening to complete silence.
