ARE REMIXES THE NEW ORIGINALS?

So what is about remixes these days that are making the original tunes as popular as the remix or re-edit? Why is it that for some artists, their music doesn't see the light of day popularity wise until after a producer has remixed it into a new, more hip dance floor rocking version? It's rare for the original versions of songs to be as appreciated as the remixes or re-edits - and yet sometimes the artists are just as deserving.

Why A.R.E Weapons aren't bigger than just an underground myth I don't know, but 'fingers crossed'- this remix will be the one change things.
Their self-titled debut album arrived in April 2003, but when their guitarist Ryan Noel died in 2004 the dynamics of the group changed dramatically and they began touring & recording as a 3 piece band. This new track is the product of the new dynamics of the group.

At the other end of the re-edit/ remix scale is 'Betty Botox', The alias of respected Glasgow electro dj & producer 'JD Twitch' whom last year offered up a whole album of re-edits and new versions of 80s classics in funk, electro pop, nu wave, punk funk and disco.

Since then it's been causing a stir on dancefloors the world over and is exceptionally hard to track down with many stores selling out as soon as it comes in.

One half of electro mash up hipsters 'Optimo' Twitch has remixed both Tom Vek and Annie amongst others. As Betty Botox however he has taken old skool disco tracks and morphed them into 'Noughties' dancefloor monsters, hugely reminscient of the original versions, and yet completely new classic disco tunes.
