The Ronson Files

Think you've heard enough of me talking about this guy?
Get ready to be school'd.

Mark Ronson.. born in London. Lived in St Johns Wood when he was a toddler.. moved to NYC when he was a kid. Son of a high-flying british real estate agent. Mother is a socialite/writer. Step-father is in a little band called Foreigner. Has two younger twin sisters, musician Samantha and fashion designer Charlotte and two teenage half-siblings, Alexander and Annabelle.

He learnt to play the drums as a kid (Keith Moon from 'The Who' taught him)... was in a rock band in high school... started DJing around NYC in 1993 where he shot to popularity playing fashion parties for the likes of Gucci and celebrity parties for Puffy, whilst still being able to keep it real with the thug'd hiphop crews.

He's dated a string of supermodels... and why not? He's talented, handsome, good breeding, right connections... He was engaged to Rashida Jones (Quincy's daughter) until a couple of years ago. If you were living in London at the time that I was, you'd know of a 7-part series called NY-LON where she played the NYC girl, Edie. Her sister, Kidada, was engaged to Tupac before he died. Rashida had written a letter back to Tupac after he made some scathing remarks about her parent's mixed marriage. He went to apologise to, who he thought was Rashida, but it was actually Kidada.

I digress..

So.. he meets up with Nikka Costa and helps produce her debut album 'Everybody Got Their Something' (2001) and goes on to release his own record - 'Here Comes The Fuzz' (2003)

I was in London when I first heard Ooh Wee (YouTube link) and I bought the album (one of my saffa scumbag housemates stole/broke it) after I watched him briefly at a party called Return To New York @ SEone in 2004.

I've been listening to the album a lot recently and I absolutely adore it. Its rock, pop, hip hop, jazz, house, soul, RnB.. all wrapped into one. Collabs with Nappy Roots, Ghostface Killah, Rivers Cuomo, Sean Paul + Tweet, M.O.P, Mos Def, Nikka Costa, Q-Tip, his Allido proteges Rhymefest and Saigon and Melbourne local boy Daniel Merriweather. The last track 'Rashi (Outro)' was for Rashida. Awww.

Mark Ronson - Intro

1st track.. Kinda like an album sampler with Ronson busting some rhymes. *squee*

The next part of the Ronson dossier will be up whenevz.. I'm sure you're all at the edge of your seats to hear more - Ha!

$M,000,000.

I personally despise that record... after teasing me with the excellent promo 12" - Ooooh Wee on the A, Always on the Run (the MOP and Mos Def joint) on the back, the rest of the album diddnt touch either of those tracks... That said... what you need to hear is his remix/cover version of "Just" by Radiohead off the equally as abysmal as his CD tribute to radiohead album that popped up earlier this year...

Sorry to hate mish, but yeah, Mark Ronson, for someone who i want to rule, doesnt lead me anywhere..

I know.. maybe went a little too indepth about his non-music side. But in my defence, this stuff is well documented on the interweb!

Alberto.. I love it. Haha!

I know 'Just'.. that track and the Lily Allen stuff kinda re-ignited this whole MR craze for me.

Hopefully you'll agree on some more of his stuff that I'll post further along ;o)
