It's all about the Rave at the moment here at Iusedtodancewithmydaddy. New Rave that is cos New Rave is the New Black.
Even more fashionable since NME gave the genre a name, it's taking off on indie dancefloor's all over Australia.
Artists such as The Rapture, Shitdisco, Robots in Disguise, The Klaxons, Simian Mobile Disco, Justice & New Young Pony Club are all leading the charge and in Australia it's the Modular label whom are most closely associated with the genre with acts like The Presets, Cut Copy & Van She.
Whilst New Rave is equally owned by dance & indie, it doesn't seem to be getting the same coverage on both sides of the fence. DJ Mag, Mixmag & IDJ for example don't seem to be giving it the same props and attempts at ownership that NME, or Q mag are. And yet tracks from New Rave artists are being played in more mainstream & underground clubs primarily for their electro-tinged sounds which snaffle aspects of rock from left, right and centre. So why is New Rave being ignored or labelled only as electro in the more mainstream worldwide Dance Music Press?
Purple Sneakers, Rebel Rebel & Street Party are clubs that are leading the charge in Australia. Visit their websites for more information on the artists playing.
New Young Pony Club have recently signed to Modular Records. They're one of the bands leading the onslaught of New Rave. Described as "A Punk band that's absorbed good disco, funk & post-punk", they're one of my bands of 2006 to watch. I'm already itching for their record which apparently is set to drop later this year.
